After a busy day or a difficult interaction, one sometimes feels a diffuse heaviness, a lack of momentum that neither sleep nor rest can dissipate. The energetic cleansing of the body specifically aims to address this type of sensation: it encompasses practices designed to restore the circulation of energies in the body and to release accumulated tensions.

These approaches are rooted in ancient traditions, from sea salt to sound, including conscious breathing.

Legal framework for energetic cleansing in France: what the law says

Before discussing methods, the French legal framework sets clear limits. In France, the titles of energy healer, magnetizer, or Reiki practitioner are not regulated professions. No state diploma is required, the title is not protected, and there is no mandatory registration with regional health agencies.

The ministry classifies these activities as “non-conventional care practices.” In practical terms, this means they are neither prohibited nor recognized as medical care, and they are not reimbursed by health insurance.

There is also law n° 2024-420 of May 10, 2024, which created article 223-1-2 of the penal code. This text targets abuses where a non-conventional practitioner would push someone to abandon medical treatment under their influence. Therefore, energetic cleansing never replaces medical follow-up, and any serious practitioner emphasizes this from the first session.

The techniques for energetic cleansing of the body are best practiced as a complement to an overall lifestyle hygiene, not as a substitute for medical advice when the situation requires it.

Purification with salt and water: the basis of body cleansing

Sea salt is probably the most accessible medium to start with. It has been used for centuries in very different contexts, from Ayurvedic tradition to Mediterranean rituals. Its principle is based on its supposed ability to absorb stagnant energies upon contact with the skin.

The salt bath, a practical approach

One pours coarse sea salt into a warm bath, then immerses oneself for about twenty minutes. The idea is to let the salt act on the entire body, particularly the neck, shoulders, and solar plexus, areas where tensions frequently accumulate.

A salt bath after a prolonged period of stress acts as a bodily reset. Some add a few drops of apple cider vinegar to enhance the purifying effect, but feedback on this point varies. The key remains regularity: once a week is sufficient during times of high emotional load.

The cold shower as a complement

When one does not have a bathtub, a shower finished with a jet of cold water on the legs and arms creates a breaking effect. The cold activates blood circulation and provides an immediate feeling of lightness. It is not a complex ritual, but a simple gesture that contributes to daily body cleansing.

Fumigation and natural incense: purifying energy through plants

Fumigation remains the most widespread method for energetic purification. One burns a dried plant and lets the smoke envelop the body, from feet to head. The three most common mediums each have their specificities.

  • White sage releases a dense and aromatic smoke, traditionally used by Indigenous peoples of North America to drive away negative energies from a place or a person.
  • Palo santo, or “sacred wood” from South America, produces a softer and sweeter smoke. It is preferred when one seeks to create a soothing atmosphere rather than to purify deeply.
  • Natural incense (frankincense, benzoin, rosemary) offers an alternative for those who practice regularly: its slow combustion allows for a longer purification session, suitable for meditation.

One lights the medium, blows out the flame to obtain embers, and then directs the smoke around the body with the hand or a feather. The room should be aired out after the session to disperse the charged smoke.

Breathing and visualization: energetic cleansing without equipment

Not all techniques require purchasing anything. Conscious breathing and visualization work anywhere, including at the office or during commutes.

Heart coherence adapted for cleansing

One inhales for five seconds, exhales for five seconds, for five minutes. This practice, known for regulating the autonomic nervous system, takes on a purifying dimension when an intention is added: with each exhalation, one imagines releasing tensions in the form of gray smoke.

Five minutes of conscious breathing morning and evening alters sleep quality in just a few days. This is not about belief, but about a documented physiological effect on heart rate and cortisol.

The light shower through visualization

Sitting or standing, one closes their eyes and visualizes a white or golden light descending from the top of the head to the feet. This mental technique, used in several traditions, allows one to “scan” the body and identify areas of tension. Where the light seems blocked in the mental exercise, one focuses attention there for a few additional breaths.

When to practice an energetic cleansing session

We are often asked if there is an ideal moment. Certain situations naturally call for energetic purification:

  • After a conflict or an emotionally charged interaction
  • During a life change (moving, separation, new job)
  • In times of persistent fatigue despite sufficient rest
  • After convalescence or a difficult health episode

Morning upon waking or evening before bed remain the most practical times. Regularity matters more than duration: a short daily session produces more effects than a large monthly ritual.

The energetic cleansing of the body requires neither extensive training nor expensive equipment. A little salt, a dried plant, or simply one’s breath is enough to integrate this practice into an overall health routine. Medical follow-up remains necessary for any situation that justifies it.
